Oak floating shelves is the most popular shelving system for alcoves that are so popular in all UK houses that used to have or still enjoy the luxury of fireplaces. A chimney in the centre of a wall creates two recessed alcoves that are nowadays usually converted into wardrobes, bookcases or just open shelving. Very convenient for storing and displaying books, files or items that one would rather have in sight than hide away in a cupboard.
